Tailored learning methods for special needs

    Patient lessons with clear structure

My lessons follow a predictable, structured approach with clear explanations and step-by-step progression. I keep distractions to a minimum and allow extra time when you need it.

    Learning journal and coaching approach

After every lesson we go through what worked well and record it in the digital learning journal. That reinforces what you have learnt and tracks your progress in a way that makes sense to you.

    Calm pace, clear routines

I provide a calm, patient learning environment with consistent routines. Lessons are adapted to your sensory needs and the way you process information.

    Building self-confidence and safety

My aim is to build your confidence through positive reinforcement, celebrating small wins and creating a safe space to make mistakes and learn.

ADHD and the practical test: how it works out

The practical test can be especially demanding with ADHD: sensory overload on the road, pressure on test day and quick decisions while being observed. With the right preparation, the practical test at the Strassenverkehrsamt (road traffic office) Bern, Schermenweg 5, is very achievable.

In the lessons we specifically train the test situations: city, country roads, motorway plus parking and turning manoeuvres. We practise clear routines, short mental checklists and strategies against impulsivity, so that you stay focused on test day, even when nerves are high.

Important to know: whether and how an ADHD diagnosis has to be declared when applying for the Lernfahrausweis (learner's permit) is not handled the same way in every canton. Some cantons have a dedicated field for it in the application form, Bern does not. Here there is only the general question of whether anything could prevent you from driving a motor vehicle safely. Anyone answering yes is usually asked for a medical assessment and has to submit a confirmation. Do not rely on information from the internet, and not on this page either. Ask the Strassenverkehrsamt (road traffic office) of your canton, that is where you get a binding answer. On request I go through the paperwork with you and support you if a traffic-medical assessment is part of the process.

    Autism and driving instruction

What helps autistic learners most is reliability. The structure of a lesson stays the same, and my instructions stay the same. I do not say “take the next exit” one time and “pull off up there” the next. Same situation, same sentence.

Recalling what you have learnt later on is difficult for many. That is why I come back to familiar things regularly instead of ticking them off as done. Whatever worked three weeks ago, we deliberately practise again, even if it went well back then.

We work in small steps, calmly and with focus, within the 90 minutes. And I always explain why something is done the way it is. In my experience that is the decisive point: anyone who understands why a rule exists applies it more safely than someone who has only learnt it by heart.

I consulted Stefan because of severe exam anxiety before my neurodivergent daughter's practical driving test. He has deep knowledge of learning to drive with neurodivergence. My daughter passed the practical driving test, not least thanks to this valuable support.

    Frequently asked questions

Do I have to declare ADHD or an autism diagnosis?

This is handled differently from canton to canton. Only the Strassenverkehrsamt (road traffic office) responsible for you can give you binding information. On request I go through the paperwork with you and support you if a traffic-medical assessment is part of the process.

    How long is a session?

Always 90 minutes. Splitting a session is not possible. Instead we adapt how it is structured, with clear routines, short explanations and breaks.

How do you prepare me for the test situation?

We drive the typical test situations around Bern: city, country roads, motorway plus parking and turning manoeuvres. On top of that we practise clear routines and short mental checklists, so that on test day you follow a familiar sequence and have fewer things to process at once.

Do I need more lessons than other learners?

Not necessarily. Some people need a little more time, others progress faster than expected once the structure is clear. Most learners end up between 20 and 35 lessons, so roughly 10 to 18 sessions. In the free 15-minute chat we estimate together what is realistic in your situation.

What does the whole driver training cost?

A 90-minute session costs CHF 200, which works out at CHF 100 per 45-minute lesson. Packages start at CHF 1090, plus a one-time admin fee of CHF 150. Not included are the Nothelferkurs (first aid course), eye test, Lernfahrausweis (learner's permit), VKU (traffic theory course), the official exam fees and the WAB course after you have passed. The WAB course has to be taken after the first twelve months following the issue of your licence. All in all, expect roughly CHF 3300 to CHF 5000 depending on the number of lessons.
