Driver training for older drivers: how a session runs
Not a test, a review
Driver training in later life is not an examination. Nothing is reported to anyone. It is about you knowing where you stand.
How a session runs
First ten minutes. A conversation: which routes do you drive, what do you avoid, what has changed?
Sixty minutes driving. City traffic, roundabouts, lane selection, parking and, if you wish, the motorway. I watch where you look, reaction time, vehicle control and how you handle assistance systems.
Twenty minutes debrief. Two or three concrete points that actually help. Not a list of thirty criticisms.
In your own car
I recommend it. You know the controls, the seat position and the view out. That way we train the real situation rather than adjusting to an unfamiliar car.
Assistance systems
Many newer cars have lane keeping, adaptive cruise control, a reversing camera and emergency braking. Understanding them makes driving calmer. We go through them together.
Short report
A written summary is available on request, for yourself or for family members.
